Announcements and Reminders for Monday, November 13, 2017:       Today is the first day of Penny Wars! Here’s how it works: Each grade is competing to earn the most points. You can earn points for your gradeby donating pennies and bills to your box located in the commons. You can also sabotage other grades (take away points) by donating your nickels, dimes, and quarters to other grade levels’ boxes. Whichever grade level wins will get to go to a CAVE Time assembly and watch:  their student council representatives get a pie in the face AND watch their assistant principal get his head shaved!  If we make $3,000 or more: Mr. Tilley and Mr. Mitchell will eat a hot pepper o $5,000 or more and Officer Lunt and Mrs. Josi will kiss pigs o $10,000 or more and Mr. Schoonover will shave off his eyebrows o $20,000 or more and Mr. Duckworth will also shave his head We are raising money for Kevin Baillargeon and his family. After the announcements on November 13,  your teacher will  show you a video explaining why we’re raising money. Just think: if every student donated $5, we could raise $10,000 and make a huge change for the Baillargeon  family! So start filling up the boxes in the commons with your change to be a part

Targets for Today: I  can read for enjoyment, and participate in discussions about literature.   I can notice and appreciate the choices of words, phrases, and sentences made by an author.   I can consider the setting of a story, and how it affects the story.  I can compare and contrast  two stories with similar elements.

Today’s  Agenda: 1. Today, check your composition book for your  Collection  favorite phrases, sentences, words.  Add to it, share with others.  Finish up and work with others on filling out your Venn diagrams. Complete your maps or other projects.  Favorite phrases, sentences, words.  Watch for interesting words, phrases, and sentences. Examples --  A favorite part:  "Now he could see the Milky Way, see it as he had never seen it before, a glimmering shroud across the arch of the sky" (95). Another:  "His guardian [Silas] looked almost heartbroken then, and Bod found himself scared, like a child who has woken a sleeping panther" (164).   This reminds me that one of Mowgli's guardians in The Jungle Book was a panther! A favorite word:  "fetched up"    Meaning: informal to arrive (at) or end up (in) 2.  💀 The Graveyard Book - Create a map of Bod's graveyard -- on the large sheet of paper provided.              or  Create an article, "Secrets of the Graveyard Revealed,"  describing the characters --  on a Google document, shared with Ms. Dorsey.  Places to put on your map for The Graveyard Book We will watch part of The Jungle Book Movie Today -- we watched parts from 1:21:18 to  Favreau, Marks,  and producer Brigham Taylor developed the film's story as a balance between Disney's animated adaptation and Kipling's original works, borrowing elements from both into the film.  and you will  Compare and Contrast -- the novel,The Graveyard Book , with the movie, The Jungle Book.
