Announcements and Reminders:

If you haven't handed in your composition book check
or your brief report on Stargirling/Starboying,
hand it in today.

Term 3 ends March 18.
All late work, revisions, and extra credit should be turned in
by March 11.
There is no school on Monday, March 7, and Ms. Dorsey will have a sub on March 10, 11.You may still hand in work on those days, but I will not be here for Cavetime or after school.

If you haven't finished reading Hugo Cabret, read that during your-choice reading.

We'll continue watching the movie Hugo today.
You may bring treats.

Targets for Today:

We will do some sustained reading for enjoyment.

We will notice words and phrases and sentences in the books we read.

We will build background knowledge -- schema for our reading.

We will read from The Invention of Hugo Cabret.
We will compare the book with the movie version.

Today’s  Agenda:

1
. Individual Reading Time: Choose your own materials
If you haven't finished reading Hugo Cabret, read that during your-choice reading.

Write about whatever aspect of your reading today that you wish to write about.

If you haven't handed in your composition book check, do that today.

3. Share your responses --

8, 1, 7, 3, 4, 11, 2, 6, 5, 9, 10

4. Watching Hugo.

Jot down any differences you notice between the book and the movie.

Like the book, it begins without words -- visual and music.

In the book, Isabelle says she'd never seen a movie.
They sneak in on their own.

Left off at 45:32.

She doesn't hurt her leg falling.

Does she slam the door on his hand?

The station master becomes more of a character, with his crippled leg.

The movie adds the "romance" between the station master and the flower girl.

[Great word:  Panache]

Left off at 1:19:39

If You Were Absent:

See above.
We will still be watching Hugo today.
